LONDON — Hugo Ekitike has been left out of Liverpool’s squad for their clash against Fulham due to a minor injury issue.
The France international’s absence leaves Liverpool without a clear striking option, with Alexander Isak ruled out through injury and Mohamed Salah on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Ekitike has been the shining light in a difficult season for Arne Slot’s side and is their top scorer in the league with eight goals.
“Isak has been out for a few weeks now, and that has meant Hugo had to play more minutes, ” Slot told Sky Sports pre-match.

“That has led to the fact he picked up a slight hamstring injury. Hopefully [he] will be back for the Arsenal game but that is not sure yet.”
Fellow summer signing Florian Wirtz could fill Ekitike’s shoes up front while Cody Gakpo‘s return to the starting XI will help share the attacking workload.
Milos Kerkez and Alexis Mac Allister also start for Liverpool after missing the draw against Leeds United on new year’s day, with Andy Robertson and Jeremie Frimpong dropping to the bench.
